Detailed description of Firewheel Golf Park, Bridges Course

Firewheel Golf Park is a 63 hole golf course facility located in Garland, Texas. The facility boasts one 27 hole golf facility (The Brdiges Golf Course) and two additional 18 hole courses, The Old Course and The Lakes Course.

The Bridges course first opened for play in 2001. The Bridges is regarded as "the crown jewel" of the Firewheel experience. The Bridges course were designed by Richard M. Phelps.

The Bridges has three different and unique nines: The Masters, The Champions and The Traditions - all three boast bentgrass greens. The sculpted fairways are lined with oak and pecan trees. Spring Creek and Rowlett Creek meander throughout. Golfers agree, any choice of nines provides the skillful golfer with a solid test.

The Champion nine plays to a length of 3474 from the back teeing area, and to a length of 2614 from the front teeing area.

The Masters nine plays to a length of 3553 from the back tees and 2529 from the front.

The Tradition nine plays to a length of 3202 from the back and 2529 from the front.

These 3 nine hole layouts of the Bridges Golf Course can be combined into 3 different 18 hole playing combinations.

Condition of the fairways need to improve. Fairways have too much hardpan for a higher end course. My preference these days are the two other Firewheel courses

Would travel: 0-10 Miles, Not Vacation Worthy
Bottom line: Average course for the area, Better courses for less nearby

As a senior, one can pay a monthly fee and play all 63 holes. Masters is the toughest 9, and Champions & Traditions 9's are good tests with all in good shape during "dog days" of summer.

Would travel: 30-60 Miles
Bottom line: I would play again, Fair priced based on quality and competitive area pricing

I consider this my in-town home course and usually play during twilight when rates are cheaper. Not a lot of homes on course but neighborhood is growing which is only natuaral for a great city course. I only play one other course that I consider a better track and it's a private course at The Retreat in Cleburne Tx

If you are a Garland resident (as I am) you can get a resident discount card (10 rds/$180) usable any day of the week. This makes it a excellent course for the money. Non-residents can buy what they call a loyalty card (10 rds/$220) which is still a very good deal. Those do not include carts ($13) which do have gps. Paying retail the course is still very nice but the quality/$$ ratio drops off a lot. These 3 nines will challenge golfers of any skill level using the different tees. Most holes are pretty tight and if you don't hit it straight most of the time, you can lose a few balls. Roland

This is a 27 hole (3 nines) muni course, generally in above avg to excellent condition, with nice greens, good clubhouse facilities, and is well-managed and maintained. The various 9's offer a variety of challenges, from easy to difficult, with the "Masters" 9 having almost all elevated greens, more trees, and a variety of terrain, so it is both interesting and challenging, as you watch misplaced shots roll off the sides of the greens, or disappear into the treed areas.
